Ten-year-old Jay’sson was matched with his Big Brother in April 2016. “I remember the first time we med Alex,” says Jay’sson’s mom, Marilyn. “We were all so nervous but that quickly ceased after we sat at the table and Alex began to interact with my son. Since that meeting Alex has gone above and beyond what I expected as a Big Brother, and has made himself familiar with the things that interest Jay’sson.”
Together, Jay’sson and Alex enjoy playing Minecraft and video games, and they even worked together to pick out the dog that Alex recently adopted. The three get along perfectly and love to play at the park together. Alex also helps Jay’sson with his homeschooling, and he checks in with him about homework and even arranged for Jay’sson and his mom to take a field trip to the State Capitol with a tour from a former Senator.
Marilyn says that the changes she has seen in her son through this journey are incredible. “My son is less angry and has changed his thinking of men since Alex has become his Big Brother,” says Marilyn. “He has gotten to experience that not all men act bad.”
Jay’sson and Alex have built a friendship to last a lifetime, and both look forward to all of the new memories they will make in the future!
