Xander, 11, is being raised by his mother, Patricia. When she felt that Xander needed an additional source of support in his life, she was thrilled that Big Brothers Big Sisters matched him with Jaxon. Jaxon was new to the program, and was excited to give a child the opportunity to experience things they might not have had the chance to do otherwise. “Having experienced some challenges when I was younger I joined BBBS in hopes of becoming a support system for a child who might not feel comfortable talking to their caregiver,” says Jaxon. “I also wanted to show a child a different perspective on life.”
Since their match was formed in October 2016, Xander and Jaxon have discovered many different activities they enjoy doing together. They like to try new things, including sporting events, launching rockets, geocaching or trying a new restaurant. They also enjoy catching movies at the drive-in movie theater.
“My favorite thing about being Xander’s Big Brother has been watching him grow and come out of his comfort zone,” says Jaxon.
“In the beginning he was a bit particular in what he liked. Being able to get him to try new things has been pretty rewarding.” Jaxon hopes that Xander will continue to explore and try new things, and that he will always grow up having an open mind. With a Big Brother like Jaxon to help guide the way, anything is truly possible for Xander!
