Our Mission

Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children realize their potential and build their futures. We nurture children and strengthen communities. We couldn’t do any of it without you.

Our Program Changes Lives

Our mission is to build and support one-to-one relationships to ignite the biggest possible futures for underprivileged youth. Our vision is that all youth achieve their full potential. Since 1964, our agency has cleared a path to the brightest possible future for youth in Sacramento, Yolo and South Placer counties. Our one-to-one mentoring program benefits children, ages 7-18, raised by single parents, grandparents and foster families. We not only adapt each mentoring relationship according to the specific needs of the child (Little), but also require that each volunteer mentor (Big) commit to a minimum of one year to establish trust with their Little. Because of this, youth in our program gain confidence, build interpersonal skills, improve their grades and begin to envision a better future for themselves.

Many of the youth we serve lack a relationship with one or even both of their parents, and have multiple siblings in their household. These children can sometimes get lost in the shuffle, and don’t receive the focused attention of a trusted adult. Our youth come from all walks of life, but each needs a positive role model to build their self-esteem, enabling them to reach their full potential and envision a successful future.
